New avatars, and your Daily now counts towards the monthly prize

Hello puzzlers. We've made a few changes to WotsThat over the past couple of weeks, and here's what they mean for you.

Your avatar

Everyone now has their own colour, which makes it much easier to spot yourself (and your rivals) on the leaderboards. We picked yours at random, but you can change it on your profile page.

Your avatar also picks up a ring if you keep your Daily Streak going. Bronze at 7 days, silver at 30, gold at 100. Miss a day and the streak starts again, so gold takes some commitment.

If you want something fancier, there are four special colours to unlock with points. Sunset and Ocean open up at 500 points, Aurora at 2,000 and Cosmic at 5,000. Once you've unlocked one you can switch to it on your profile page. There's a full rundown on the How It Works page.

A couple of smaller touches: Hall of Fame players get a star on their avatar, and last month's winner is dressed in gold for the whole of the following month. You can also change your display name once every 30 days now.

The Daily Challenge now counts towards the monthly prize

From 1 October, every Daily you solve adds points to the monthly leaderboard, which is the one that decides who wins the monthly prize. The Daily scores the same way it always has (the faster you solve it, the more you get; see the points breakdown), so there's nothing new to learn.

If you're on a Daily Streak, you'll also get a bonus every time you solve:

  • 7 days or more: +2 points

  • 30 days or more: +4 points

  • 100 days or more: +8 points

You only get the bonus for the highest level you've reached, not all three added together. You'll need to be signed in, otherwise we've nowhere to save your points.

If you mostly play the monthly game, doing the Daily with your morning coffee now gives you a few extra points. And if you're a Daily regular, you're already on the monthly leaderboard without having to change a thing.

Finding yourself on the leaderboards

The leaderboards still show the top 20, but if you're further down you'll now see your own row pinned underneath, with your rank and how many points you need to move up a place. The This Month page also shows how your total splits between regular play, the Daily and referrals, so you can see where your points are coming from.

Tell us what you think

Which colour did you go for? Is there a reward you'd like us to add next? Leave a comment below. We're a small team and your suggestions really do shape what we build.

Thanks for playing,
The WotsThat team
