For our founder, it was a battered board game from childhood: close-up photographs of everyday objects, completely unrecognisable out of context. The challenge was simple. Figure out what on earth you were looking at.
He never forgot it. And he never forgot how much fun it was.
Decades later, WotsThat was born: a free, endlessly playable image-guessing game that takes that same simple, brilliant idea and puts it in your pocket.
Two ways to play
WotsThat is actually two games in one. Both are free and both revolve around the same simple question: what is that a picture of?
Daily
Every day at midnight UTC, one brand new Daily puzzle goes live. It is the same image and the same answer for every player in the world. You can play without signing up. Reveal the picture, type as many guesses as you like, and build a streak by playing on consecutive days. There is a hint if you are stuck, and you can give up to see the answer and a fun fact. Your time and guess count are tracked so you can compare with friends, but only your streak and score get saved if you sign in.
Play
The original monthly photo-guessing competition. Sign in, scroll through a pile of unsolved images uploaded by other players, and try to be the first to name each one. Upload your own baffling close-ups to earn stumper points every time someone fails to guess them. The live This Month board updates as people play, and the completed month is archived on the Leaderboards page.
