When you slice open a fig, those tiny seeds you see aren't actually seeds at all—they're the fig's flowers that never made it outside the fruit because figs bloom and develop entirely inside their hollow body. The reason figs are so perfectly formed is because the fig wasp crawls inside through a tiny opening to pollinate those hidden flowers, essentially building the fruit from the inside out.
