Answer: Cotton bud tip

What you're looking at

A cotton bud is that small stick with fluffy white cotton wrapped around each end that you'll find in nearly every bathroom cabinet and medicine drawer. They're designed for gentle cleaning and are a staple of personal hygiene routines, though most of us could probably find a hundred uses for them around the house.

When you zoom in extremely close on the cotton tip, you lose all sense of scale and familiar context. The soft, fuzzy fibres create an almost otherworldly texture that looks more like a tiny landscape or abstract surface than something you'd recognise from everyday life. The individual strands become visible and create patterns that bear little resemblance to what your eye sees at normal distance.

Look for soft, fibrous textures that resemble tiny cotton batting or cloud-like structures when magnified.
